BAR ADMISSION: Colorado and Georgia, 1971; U.S. Supreme Court 1976; 11th Circuit Court of Appeals; 5th Court of Appeal, N.D. and Georgia.
LEGAL EMPLOYMENT & EXPERIENCE: 1971-1978 Georgia, Stokes & Shapiro; 1978-1994 Founder and Senior Partner of own law firm; 1994 to present, of Counsel with Smith, Howard & Ajax, LLP. Atlanta. All the legal experience involved in representation of businesses in the construction community, including design professionals, owners, general contractors, subcontractors and material suppliers. Has extensive litigation experience involving construction issues. Has acted as counsel and advisor to a number of construction trade associations on legislative matters and has been the legal advisor and consultant on Mechanics and Materialmen's Lien law for the State of Georgia. A substantial portion of the practice has involved representation of business organizations and their owners in the formation, buying, selling and merging the businesses, including the financial and tax aspects of these organizations and reorganizations. Has extensive knowledge in tax exchanges involving IRC Section 1031.
PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS: Georgia Bar Association, Colorado Bar Association, Atlanta Bar Association, American Bar Association, Georgia Council for Dispute Resolution, Inc. and Society of Professionals in Dispute Resolution ("SPIDR").
MEDIATION/ARBITRATION TRAINING: Has attended numerous AAA Arbitration training seminars as well as served as an Arbitrator of construction and related issues on several dozen construction matters. In 1986, started own mediation firm providing mediation services to the construction industry and through this organization has mediated some eighty (80) to ninety (90) matters. All involved construction issues and many were multi-party mediations.
